My fascination lies in
how drawing in VR translates the hand movements of the drawing process into sculpture and structures 3D space.
In Rock Study 25, I used VR Gravity Sketch to map the conceptual interior of a rock. The act of drawing in VR creates the illusion of being inside the drawing while structuring it. This approach allows the subject to be explored at a skewed composition that would otherwise be impossible. This immersive creative process expands the limits of representation that may exist in a conventional 2D drawing approach and enables a more expansive observation of the subject. Through slit-scan techniques, I reinterpreted hand-drawn studies of the rock and composed the final image in Blender and Photoshop to reflect my observation of it.
This creative process explores how VR spatial drawing can connect with traditional hand drawing, aiming to retain the delicacy of observational drawing through digital tools and present it in physical prints.

'As a poet, you'll see preciousness even in a rock on a street corner.' I encountered this idea as a child and found it baffling. ‘What is so special about rocks? A rock was just a rock!’ So I kicked every rock I passed.
As my creative practice has evolved, I've begun to perceive the world's delicate complexity compressed into solid forms. Each rock carries the memory of molten magma, preserving the record of its slow cooling and the stages of fragmentation. I find myself imagining what mysteries lie beneath these weathered surfaces. A rock is never just a rock; it holds the entire history of Earth within its fractured geometry.
Here I share a selection of rock study drawings, with more to follow.
